Goldcrest launches new Foley studio

One year on since Adrian Rhodes joined Goldcrest Post to set up a sound design department, the team have created an in-house Foley studio with legendary Foley mixer Paul Carr emerging from retirement to consult on the project and manage the first recordings. Now able to offer a wide range of Foley services, the new studio has already been put to work on an upcoming animated feature film and the first 6 episodes of the Kudos TV series, “Eternal Law”, which is currently being mixed by Adrian Rhodes.

Overseeing the first internal Foley work on “Eternal Law”, Paul Carr was reunited with his favourite old leather bag he bought in Egypt - his favourite prop for leather creaks, squeaks and moves. The work was performed by Foley “walker” artist Susie Harding and recorded by Foley Editor Julien (Jules) Pirrie [pictured]. An aspiring Foley Editor for quite some time, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity for 23 year old Jules to learn from the master.

Paul retired in 2009 after 26 years at Goldcrest with an extensive list of credits and experiences from his 50 year career going back to when Foley was known as “footstep sessions”.  He first met Suzie Harding as a Goldcrest Runner and Receptionist 10 years ago where she showed a keen interest in Foley and sat in on sessions. He soon took her on board to learn the trade of being a Foley Walker / Artist. Paul is pleased to have the opportunity to pass along the tricks of the trade to the young Julien Pirrie now. “I’m too old for secrets. If you don’t pass them on, where’s the pleasure?”
